Highlassies, Highlanders claim conference and all-region honors
Several members of the McLennan women's and men's basketball squads were named to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference Awards list.
For the Highlassies, sophomore KeeKee Nowlin was named first-team all-conference. Nowlin, a guard from Bryan, averaged 15.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Anastacia Mickens, Annya Moss and Ny'Asia Goldman were honorable mention selections. Mickens, a sophomore forward from Beaumont, averaged 7.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Moss, a freshman guard from the Bahamas, averaged 8.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. A freshman point guard from Houston, Goldman averaged 6.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Sophomores Xavier Armstead and Dayante McClellan were first-team all-conference selections for the Highlanders. Armstead, a guard and Waco native, averaged 17.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. McClellan, a forward from Del Valle, averaged 6.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Sophomores Javen Hedgeman and Mike Adewunmi were honorable mention all-conference selections along with freshman Willie Thomas. Hedgeman, a point guard from Pearland, averaged nine points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Dallas native Adewunmi, a guard, averaged 11.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Thomas, a forward from Tacoma, Washington, averaged five points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Armstead was also named to the all-region team.
