Highlassies conquer the Lady Suns
The McLennan Highlassies are headed into the Thanksgiving break with a 55-42 victory the Cedar Valley Lady Suns.
McLennan was in control for the majority of the first quarter. Cedar Valley led 4-3 with 8:48 to play in the first. The Highlassies used a 10-0 run over a two minute span to pull away. McLennan led 16-6 with four minutes to go in the first. The Lady Suns ended the period on a 4-0 run to pull within six, 16-10. Cedar Valley cut the lead to four early in the second but seven points from KeeKee Nowlin in the period gave McLennan the 25-19 advantage at halftime.
McLennan dominated the first eight minutes of the third, outscoring Cedar Valley 9-2 to extend the lead to 15, 34-19. The Lady Suns didn't give up, using a 10-0 run to end the third and cut the lead to five, 34-29. The Highlassies stepped up the game to start the fourth on a 7-0 run, 41-29. Cedar Valley pulled within eight with just under four minutes remaining in the game but McLennan was able to hold off the late charge.
KeeKee Nowlin led McLennan with 29 points.
McLennan returns to the court Nov. 26, hosting Blinn at 5:30 p.m.
