Highlanders get run-rule wins over San Jacinto & Howard
The McLennan Highlanders scored 28 runs in two games this afternoon to pick up a pair of run-rule wins.
McLennan opened the tournament with a 12-1 run-rule win over the San Jacinto Ravens with Katia Reyes in the circle.
San Jacinto began the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Arianna Wright led off with a double and advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chloe Foster. Madison Carr then singled to score Wright.
The Highlanders tie the game with a run in the bottom of the inning. Mickayla Tosch singled and Trinity Allen walked. Tosch then advanced to third on a fly out by Kyla Heine and stole home.
Six McLennan runs in the second gave the Highlanders the lead. Chesnee Faile walked, Madison Hornback singled, and Sarah Johnson walked, loading the bases. Ellie Loveless single to score Faile, and Taylor Meier singled to score Hornback. A fielder's choice by Tosch brought Johnson in to score and put Meier out at second. Allen followed with a fielder's choice, putting Loveless out at home. Heine then doubled to score Tosch and Allen, and Katia Reyes singled to score Heine.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the third. Hornback led off with an in-the-park home run. Meier singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Tosch then reached on another error, scoring Meier. Allen walked and Heine was hit by the pitch. Reyes also walked, scoring Tosch.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the fourth. Hornback doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Meier then singled to score Hornback, and Tosch tripled to score Meier.
The Highlanders defeated the Howard Hawks 16-2 in the night cap with Makenzi Jenkins picking up the win.
McLennan scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Meier drew a walk, stole second and scored on an error. Tosch tripled and Allen was hit by the pitch. Allen stole second, and Tosch scored on a single by Madison Garcia. Garcia was caught stealing, and Reyes followed with a solo home run.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Ally Thompson and Lilly Rocha singled. Meier followed with a fielder's choice putting Rocha out at second. Thompson and Meier then scored on a sacrifice fly by Tosch.
Howard got on the board with a run in the top of the third. Julia Kenzi Canalas and Ashley McMahon both singled and advanced on an error. Emily Cordova then singled to score Canalas.
McLennan exploded for seven runs in the third. Chesnee Faile doubled and scored on a single by Aynsli Lawson. Thompson singled and Rocha walked, loading the bases. Meier also walked, scoring Lawson, and Thompson scored on a sac fly by Tosch. Allen followed with a three-run homer, and Reyes hit a solo home run.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Thompson singled and Rocha doubled. Meier singled to score Thompson, and Rocha scored on a passed ball. Johnson then grounded out to score Meier.
The Hawks final run came in the top of the fifth. McMahon walked and Cordova singled, both advancing on a wild pitch. McMahon then scored on a ground out by Amaya Foxover.
