McLennan Softball squad dominates conference award list
The McLennan Softball squad dominated the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's award list released today. McLennan players claimed three of the four top individual awards and the coach's award.
Chris Berry was named the Coach of the Year after leading McLennan to the NTJCAC Conference Championship, the Region V North Tournament Championship and a berth in the NJCAA Division I National Championship tournament.
Sophomore Hailey Hudson was named the Pitcher of the Year. The right-hander from College Station had a 13-0 record in the circle with a 1.25 ERA and 105 strikeouts during conference play.
Sophomore Caitlyn "CC" Wong was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year. The infielder from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, had a.531 batting average during conference play with seven doubles, 11 home runs and 44 R BIs.
Freshman Madelyn "Maddie" Saven was named the Defensive Player of the Year. The shortstop from Sarasota, Florida, had a .356 batting average with five doubles, one triple and 28 RBIs along with a .963 fielding percentage in 32 conference games.
Hudson and Wong were also named first-team all-conference selections along with Erin Plunkett, Jenny Robison, Ka'Lyn Watson, Julia Herzinger and Cheyenne Floyd. Plunkett, a freshman infielder from Humble, had a .411 conference batting average with 11 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 35 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. Robison, a freshman outfielder from Montgomery, had a .446 conference average with 12 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, and 39 RBIs. Watson, a sophomore outfielder from Missouri City, had a .419 average with seven doubles, a triple, three home runs, 21 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. Herzinger, a sophomore catcher/designated player from Magnolia, had conference average with nine doubles, two triples-, six home runs and 32 RBIs. Floyd, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Liberty Hill, had a record in conference play with a 1.69 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
Saven was a second-team all-conference selection along with Riley Rutherford, Anissa Arredondo and Sidney Campion. Rutherford, a freshman catcher/designated player from Katy, had a .319 average with seven doubles, a triple, five home runs and 24 RBIs. Arredondo, a sophomore pitcher from San Antonio, had a 5-0 confernce record with a 2.01 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Campion, a sophomore outfield from San Antonio, had a .411 average with five doubles, four triples, two home runs and 22 RBIs.
Freshman Jalie Neff was an honorable mention selection. The infielder from Colleyville had a .351 average with four doubles, three home runs and 22 RBIs.
