No. 13 McLennan Softball gets conference victories over No. 4 Grayson
No. 13 McLennan Softball opened conference play with a pair of victories over the No. 4 Grayson Vikings this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 5-1 with Hailey Hudson getting the win in the circle.
Grayson's only run came in the bottom of the first. Amiah Galcatcher singled and was replaced by pinch runner Ellie Vance. Vance then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Kenna Collett.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Erin Plunkett hit a solo home run, and Caitlyn Wong walked. Hudson followed with the two-run homer.
Jenny Robison's solo home run to lead off the third made it a 4-1 McLennan lead.
The final McLennan run came in the bottom of the fifth. Robison walked and Julia Herzinger singled. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jalie Neff. Robison was out at home on a fielder's choice by Maddie Saven. Sidney Campion then singled to score Herzinger.
McLennan edged out Grayson 3-2 in game two with Matalyn Wolkow picking up the win in the circle.
Grayson began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Sage Harlow reached first and advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Collett.
Another Grayson run scored in the third. Galcatcher singled and was replace by pinch runner Azia Lokeni. Lokeni then scored on a double by Collett.
McLennan's first run came in the bottom of the third. Caitlin Bradley-Tse was hit by the pitch and Wong singled. Rachel Warren replaced Wong as a pinch runner, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Bradley-Tse then scored on another wild pitch.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Sidney Campion singled and Bradley-Tse walked. Wong also singled, and Campion was out at home. Bradley-Tse once again scored on a wild pitch.
A run in the bottom of the fifth gave McLennan the lead. Riley Rutherford walked and advanced to second on a ground out by Robison. Saven then reached on an error, scoring Rutherford.
The teams will complete the four-game conference series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Grayson.
