McLennan, San Jacinto split softball doubleheader
No. 17 McLennan and No. 8 San Jacinto split today's softball doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
San Jacinto took game one 14-6 in six innings with Cheyenne Floyd taking the loss in the circle.
Three San Jacinto runs scored in the top of the first. Juliana Garcia singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kaurie Winters and advanced to third on a fly out by Maggie Childs. Taniece Tyson then singled to score Garcia. Ronni Grofman followed with a two-run homer.
San Jacinto added four runs in the second. Kayla Gonzalez walked and Gabby Cantu singled. Both runners advanced on a McLennan error and scored on a single by Garcia. Winters and Childs both singled, bringing Garcia around to score. Winters then scored on a passed ball.
Ka'Lyn Watson put McLennan on the board with a run in the third.
Three McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Caitlyn Wong singled and was replaced by pinch runner Rachel Warren. Erin Plunkett then singled to score Warren. Hailey Hudson followed with a triple to score Plunkett, and Hudson scored on a ground out by Jenny Robison.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Sidney Campion reached and advanced to second on an error. Caitlin Bradley-Tse then tripled to score Campion. Bradley-Tse then scored on a ground out by Wong.
San Jacinto scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the win. Esabella Casa drew a lead-off walk and Tabitha Burnett singled. Both runners scored on a single by Cantu. Cantu advanced to second on an error and Garcia singled. Winters followed with a single to score Cantu and Garcia. Tyson singled and was replace by pinch runner Rayne Althaus. Grofman followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan bounced back to take game two 3-2 with Hailey Hudson getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Bradley-Tse singled and Wong walked. Plunkett then singled to score Bradley-Tse.
San Jacinto tied the game with a run in the third. Garcia singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Winters. Garcia then scored on a McLennan error.
San Jacinto scored a run in the fifth to take the lead as Cantu walked, moved to third on a ground out by Garcia and scored on a sacrifice fly by Winters.
McLennan sealed the win with two runs in the sixth. Riley Rutherford led off with a solo home run. Maddie Saven then doubled and scored on a single by Watson.
McLennan returns to action Sunday, hosting LSU-Eunice for a noon doubleheader.
