McLennan Softball players earn NFCA honors
McLennan Softball's Julia Herzinger and Caitlyn Wong have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NJCAA Division I All-Americans. This marks the first time in program history that two players received the honor in the same year.
Herzinger, a freshman from Magnolia, Texas, was a second-team selection as a utility player/non-pitcher. She appeared in 57 games this season, recording a .344 batting average with eight doubles, four triples, 20 home runs, 48 RBIs and 55 runs scored. The 20 home runs is a new single-season record. Herzinger was also an NFCA All-Region West first-team selection.
Wong, a freshman from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, was a second-team at-large selection as a third baseman. Wong appeared in 55 games this season, recording a team-leading .481 batting average with 20 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 66 RBIs and 54 runs scored. Wong was also an NFCA All-Region West second-team selection.
Outfielder Lindsey Evans, a sophomore from Corpus Christi, was also an NFCA All-Region West second-team selection. She appeared in all 60 games this season, recording a .384 batting average with 13 doubles, seven triples, 17 home runs, 69 RBIs and 70 runs scored. She set the career record for home runs with 22, and has signed with Angelo State University.
