McLennan Softball sweeps LSU-Eunice
McLennan picked up a pair of wins on the opening day of a four-game series on the road today with LSU-Eunice, the 10th-ranked team in NJCAA Division II Softball
McLennan took game one 11-6 with Reese Taylor getting the win in the circle.
Julia Herzinger's solo home run to lead off the second put McLennan on the board.
Two McLennan runs scored in the third with solo home runs from Caitlyn Wong and Herzinger.
McLennan exploded for seven runs in the fourth. With two outs on the board, Rosemary Rivera hit a solo home run. Kenzie Chambers walked and Bailey Krolczyk singled, both advancing on a wild pitch and scoring on a single by Wong. Lindsey Evans followed with a double to score Wong, and Herzinger singled to score Evans. Melayna Lopez drew a walked, and Sidney Campion doubled to score Herzinger and Lopez.
LSU-Eunice got on the board with two runs in the fourth as Olivia Hennen reached on an error and scored on a Gracie King home run.
Two more Bengal runs scored in the fifth as Katelyn Courville walked and scored on a Sydnei Simon home run.
LSU-Eunice's final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Karli Fontenot singled and Ashlyn Roach walked. Morgan Harlow replaced Roach as a pinch runner. Simon then singled to score Fontenot and Harlow.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Genesis Rodriguez and Rivera walked, and Krolczyk was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Wong then walked to score Rodriguez.
McLennan defeated LSU-Eunice 15-5 in six innings in the nightcap with Cheyenne Floyd getting the win in the circle.
McLennan took control with seven runs in the top of the first. Evans walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Wong. Herzinger was hit by the pitch and Lopez singled to load the bases. Ka'Lyn Watson was hit by the pitch, bringing Wong in to score, and Campion walked to scored Herzinger. Kadyn Trochim followed with a single to score Lopez and Watson. Rivera singled and Krolczyk doubled to scored Campion and Trochim.
LSU-Eunice scored two in the bottom of the first. Simon walked, Maddie Leal singled and Rylie Candella walked, loading the bases. Fontenot then singled to score Simon and Leal.
The Bengals added two runs in the second. Kennedy Smith walked, stole second and moved to third on a ground out by Courville. Simon followed with a sacrifice fly to score Smith. Leal then tripled and scored on a single by Hennen.
LSU-Eunice added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Smith walked, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Simon.
McLennan added five runs in the fifth. Campion walked and scored on a double by Trochim. Rivera singled and was replaced by pinch runner Kenzie Chambers. Evans also walked, loading the bases. Krolczyk followed with a grand slam.
The final three McLennan runs crossed the plate in the sixth. Trochim doubled and scored on a double by Rivera. Evans then doubled to score Rivera. Evans moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Wong.
The teams will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader tomorrow.
