McLennan & Cisco split on softball diamond
The McLennan and Softball squads split today's conference doubleheader in Cisco.
The Cisco Lady Wranglers needed extra innings to defeat McLennan 14-12 in the opener. Anissa Arredondo took the loss in the circle for McLennan.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Lindsey Evans drew a lead-off walk and scored on a double by Wong. Sidney Campion drew a walk and Melayna Lopez was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Reese Taylor drew a walk to score Wong.
Cisco got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first as Peyton Vasquez singled, stole second and scored on a McLennan error.
McLennan added a run in the second. Rosemary Rivera was hit by the pitch and moved to second on a ground out by Ka'Lyn Watson. Wong then singled to score Rivera.
Another McLennan run scored in the third as Kadyn Trochim walked and scored on a double by Rivera.
McLennan pushed the lead to 5-1 with a run in the fourth. Wong doubled Campion walked and Lopes was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Wong then scored on a fly out by Taylor.
Cisco tied the game with four runs in the fourth. Bailey Buck, Lauren Aleman and Alyssa Hickman all walked. Vasquez reached on an error, bringing Buck and Aleman in to score. Sara Papizan also reached on an error, scoring Hickman and Vasquez.
McLennan regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Rivera led off with a double and scored on a single by Evans. Genesis Rodriguez walked and Wong doubled. Campion followed with a single to score Rodriguez. Wong then stole home and Campion scored on a pop fly by Taylor.
Cisco responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Aleman walked and scored on a Trinity Dudley home run. Hickman reached on an error and Vasquez singled. Papizan followed with a three-run homer. Tayler Epperson followed with a solo home run to put Cisco ahead 11-9.
McLennan added three runs in the sixth to go back on top 12-11. Rivera singled and scored on a double by Evans. Evans advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a double by Rodriguez. Wong then doubled to score Rodriguez.
The Lady Wranglers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Aleman singled, moved to second on a ground out by Dudley and advanced to third on a fly out by Hickman. Vasquez then reached on an error allowing Aleman to score.
Cisco sealed the win with two runs in the top of the eighth as Buck singled and scored on Aleman's walk-off homer.
McLennan defeated Cisco 5-4 in the nightcap with Reese Taylor getting the complete-game win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a Melayna Lopez home run in the top of the first.
Cisco took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Papizan singled and Aleman was safe on a fielder's choice. Hickman walked to load the bases. Buck singled to score Papizan, and Aleman scored on a fly out by Maddie Murley.
McLennan went back on top with three runs in the third. Julia Herzinger singled and Evans walked. Both runners scored on another Lopez home run.
Evans' solo home run in the fifth rounded out the McLennan scoring.
Cisco's final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Buck singled and Murley doubled. Dudley followed with a single to score Buck, and Murley scored on a fielder's choice by Alexis Magallanez.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader tomorrow at Bosque River Ballpark.
