McLennan Softball sweeps Alvin on opening day
McLennan Softball opened the 2019 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Alvin Dolphins this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan opened with a 12-2 run-rule victory over Alvin in game one with Emily Klanika getting the win in the circle.
The Highlassies began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second. Emeri Eubanks drew a lead-off walk, moved to second on a ground out by Sophie Wideman, then stole third and home. Lindy Alexander was then hit by the pitch and scored on a double by Rebeca Fajardo.
McLennan exploded for nine runs in the third inning. Genisa Marrero-Carter singled and scored on a triple by Olivia Lantigua. Kaitlin Richards then singled to score Lantigua. Eubanks doubled, and Wideman singled to score Richards and Eubanks. Arianna Perales singled and Alexander was safe on an error. Perales scored on the Alvin error, and Fajardo doubled to score Alexander. Kaelin Morkisch walked, and Lantigua then singled to score Fajardo. Richards singled to score Morkisch and Lantigua.
The Highlassies added another run in the fourth as Wideman tripled and scored on a single by Alexander.
Both of Alvin's runs scored in the top of the seventh. Chelsea Sandoval, Isabella Hernandez and Alexa Mull all walked to load the bases. Sandoval scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Farris. Alexis Barton then singled to score Hernandez.
McLennan picked up another run-rule win, 9-1, in the nightcap with Destiny Guerra getting the win in the circle.
The Highlassies scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Marrero-Carter was safe at first on an error to lead off. Richards followed with a two-run homer to right field.
Alvin's Nina Tamez homered to lead off the third and score the Dolphins only run of the game.
McLennan scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Eubanks walked followed by back-to-back singles by Wideman and Brooke Arnold to load the bases. Daniella Hill was hit by the pitch, bringing Eubanks in to score. A fielder's choice by Destiny Sanchez brought Wideman in to score. Morkisch singled to score Arnold, and Hill scored on the throw.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with three runs in the fourth. Eubanks doubled and scored on a single by Wideman. Arnold singled and Hill doubled to score Wideman and Arnold.
McLennan travels to Odessa Friday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
