The McLennan Highlassies picked up their second conference sweep of the week with a pair of victories over the Ranger Lady Rangers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlassies defeated the Lady Rangers 2-1 in the early game with Victoria Vasquez getting the win in the circle. Vasquez allowed just two hits and recorded seven strikeouts in the seven-inning game.
Ranger's only run of the day came in the top of the first inning as Riley Saegert singled, advanced around to third on a Highlassie error and scored on a passed ball.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Brittany Montoya singled, moved to second on sacrifice bunt by Genisa Marrero-Carter and scored on a single by Breanna Heredia.
The winning run came in the bottom of the sixth for the Highlassies. Marrero-Carter singled, stole second and moved to third on an overthrow. Ariana Hernandez then doubled to score Marrero-Carter.
McLennan shut out the Lady Rangers 6-0 in game two with Emily Klanika getting the win in the circle. Klanika recorded five strikeouts and allowed just two hits in five innings. Relief pitcher Emily Gray also recorded five strikeouts in her one and two-thirds innings.
All six of the Highlassies' runs came on a two-out rally in the bottom of the third inning. Heredia drew a walk and Charley Avery singled. Cassie Pavlas followed with a fielder's choice, putting Heredia out at third. Olivia Lantigua doubled to score Avery. Pavlas and Lantigua scored on the three-run bomb by Kaitlin Richards. Emeri Eubanks then singled and scored on the two-run homer by Hernandez.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, traveling to Sherman to face Grayson in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
