Highlassies open conference with sweep of Cisco
The McLennan Highlassies picked up their first conference sweep of the season with two run-rule victories over the Cisco Lady Wranglers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan shut out Cisco 8-0 in game one with Victoria Vasquez getting the win in the circle. Vasquez allowed one hit and recorded seven strikeouts in five innings.
The Highlassies scored one run in the second as Emeri Eubanks tripled and scored on a double by Brittany Montoya.
McLennan added a run in the third as Olivia Lantigua doubled and scored on a single by Kaitlin Richards.
The Highlassies sealed the win with six runs in the fifth. Lantigua was safe at first on an error, stole second and scored on Richards' home run. Ariana Hernandez doubled and scored on another triple by Eubanks. Genisa Marrero-Carter was also safe at first on a Cisco error, bringing Eubanks in to score. Montoya doubled to score Marrero-Carter; and Montoya scored on a sacrifice fly by Breanna Heredia.
McLennan defeated Cisco 11-2 in game two with Emily Klanika getting the win.
Four Highlassie runs scored in the bottom of the second. Marrero-Carter was safe at first on an error. Hernandez singled and moved to second on throw to the plate as Marrero-Carter scored. Hernandez advanced to third on a fly out by Heredia and Charley Avery drew a walk. Pavlas doubled to score Hernandez; and Avery scored on a ground out by Lantigua. Richards then doubled to score Pavlas.
Cisco finally got on the board with a run in the third as Destiny DeLeon reached first and moved to second on a Highlassie error, then came in to score on a single by Mattie Acklin.
McLennan scored seven runs in the bottom of the third. Montoya walked and Marrero-Carter singled. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Hernandez. Heredia singled to score Montoya and Avery was hit by the pitch. Pavlas followed with a single to score Marrero-Carter. A fielder's choice by Lantigua put Pavlas out at second and brought Heredia in to score. Richards walked to load the bases. Eubanks followed with a triple, scoring Avery, Lantigua and Richards. Eubanks then scored on a single by Montoya.
Cisco rounded out the scoring with a run in the fourth. Vanessa Escamilla walked and Dionne Pierre singled. Emily Martinez followed with a fielder's choice, putting Escamilla out at third. DeLeon then doubled to score Pierre.
