Highlassies sweep Hill
The McLennan Highlassies moved to 27-11 overall and 11-5 in conference play with a sweep of the Hill Lady Rebels Friday afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlassies defeated the Lady Rebels 8-3 in game one with Lizzie Donaldson picking up the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first. Theresa Gonzales doubled, Serena Saldivar walked and Elizabeth Svienty singled to load the bases. Zayra Olguin followed with a double to clear the bases. Haley Webre then doubled to score Olguin.
The Highlassies added a run in the second as Dariann Resendez walked, stole second and scored on a single by Theresa Gonzales.
Hill got on the board with Alyssa De Los Santos' solo home run in the top of the fourth.
McLennan scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Resendez led off with a walk and scored on Victoria Gonzales' home run.
The Rebels scored one in the fifth. Hannah Watson singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Mariah Delgado. Watson then scored on a McLennan error.
The Highlassies' final run came in the bottom of the fifth as Estrella Guardiola singled, moved to second on a ground out by Angie Camacho and scored on a single by Victoria Gonzales.
Hill rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as Delgado doubled and scored on another McLennan error.
It was all Highlassies in game two with Vannessa Castro picking up the 9-0 run-rule shutout win in the circle.
Two Highlassie runs scored in the bottom of the first. Resendez and Victoria Gonzales both singled. Resendez came around to score from second on a Hill error. Gonzales moved around to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Olguin.
McLennan exploded for five runs in the second. Webre walked and Camacho singled. Resendez followed with the three-run homer. Victoria Gonzales was safe at first and moved to second on a Hill error, and Theresa Gonzales drew a walk. Both of the Gonzales sisters scored on a double by Olguin.
The final two runs came in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the sixth. Resendez walked and pinch hitter Ruby Trejo singled. Pinch hitter Gabrielle Fonseca followed with a fielder's choice putting Resendez out at third. Maddie Warhol, another pinch hitter, followed with a double to score Trejo and Fonseca.
McLennan continues conference play April 5 traveling to Weatherford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
