Highlassies dominate Vernon
The McLennan Highlassies dominated the Vernon Lady Chaparrals with two shut-out victories in Saturday's conference doubleheader in Vernon.
McLennan run-ruled Vernon 8-0 in six innings of game one with Lizzie Donaldson picking up the win in the circle. All eight of the Highlassies' runs came in the top of the sixth. Dariann Resendez led off with a double and Victoria Gonzales singled. Resendez scored on a fly out by Theresa Gonzales. Serena Saldivar drew a walk and Victoria Gonzales scored on a bunt by Zayra Olguin. Ruby Trejo and Gabrielle Fonseca drew back-to-back walks to score Saldivar. Angie Camacho was hit by the pitch bringing Olguin in to score. Resendez followed with another double to score Trejo, Fonseca and Camacho. Victoria Gonzales then singled to score Resendez.
The Highlassies picked up another run-rule in game two, this time 10-0 in five innings. Vannessa Castro got the win in the circle.
McLennan jumped out to the early lead scoring two in the first. Resendez walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Victoria Gonzales followed with a single. Resendez came in to score on a ground out by Theresa Gonzales. Saldivar then tripled to score Victoria Gonzales.
The Highlassies broke the game open with five runs in the second. Haley Webre led off with a single and Breanna Heredia was safe on a bunt but was put out at second. Camacho doubled and Webre scored on a passed ball. Camacho then scored on a fly out by Resendez. Victoria Gonzales walked and Theresa Gonzales doubled. Saldivar followed with a double to score both Victoria and Theresa. Saldivar then scored on a bunt by Olguin.
The final three runs came in the fourth. Theresa Gonzales tripled and scored on an error that put Saldivar on first. Elizabeth Svienty followed with a two-run homer.
The Highlassies will host Cisco at 1 p.m. Wednesday in another conference doubleheader.
