Highlassies drop two games to Weatherford
The McLennan Highlassies dropped both games of today's doubleheader with the Weatherford Lady Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark.
Weatherford took game one 5-2 with Vannessa Castro taking the loss in the circle. McLennan trailed the Lady Coyotes through the first four and one half innings but rallied to take a one-run lead into the seventh. Weatherford scored two in the top of the seventh to steal the win.
The Lady Coyotes jumped out to an early lead scoring two in the top of the first. Kalina Sato drew a walk and Macie Perrin doubled. Both runners came in to score on a passed ball.
Weatherford added a run in the second as Kristeny Magallanes reached first safely and advanced around to the third on a Highlassie error then scored on a single by Aspen Grimes.
McLennan tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Elizabeth Svienty, Haley Webre and Estrella Guardiola all singled to load the bases. Svienty scored on a fly out by Angie Camacho, and Webre scored on a fly out by Dariann Resendez. Theresa Gonzales then singled to score Guardiola.
The Highlassies took the lead with a run in the sixth as Victoria Gonzales doubled, moved to third on single by Webre and scored on a bunt by Guardiola.
Weatherford stole the win with two runs in the top of the seventh as Morgan Rackel singled and scored on a home run by Magallanes.
Game two was a pitcher's duel with the Lady Coyotes winning 1-0. Lizzie Donaldson took the loss in the circle.
Weatherford scored the only run in the second as Madison Hightower walked, advanced to second on an error, moved to third on the walk of Courtney Campbell and scored on a single by Grimes.
McLennan continues conference play on Wednesday traveling to Sherman for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Grayson.
