Highlassies sweep Grayson
The McLennan Highlassies swept the conference doubleheader with the Grayson Lady Vikings in Sherman.
McLennan defeated Grayson 7-4 in game one with Lizzie Donaldson getting the win in the circle.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings of play. Grayson began the scoring with
Samantha Loving's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Highlassies took the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Zayra Olguin led off with a single and scored on a Theresa Gonzales home run. Serena Saldivar and Victoria Gonzales followed with back-to-back home runs.
The Lady Vikings added two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Baylee Goolsby singled and scored on a Jacye Grimm home run.
McLennan added two runs in the sixth. Angie Camacho led off with a single and Olguin was safe on a bunt. Both runners scored on a single by Saldivar.
The final Highlassies run came in the top of the seventh as Haley Webre tripled and scored on a ground out by Estrella Guardiola.
Grayson rounded out the scoring with Goolsby's home run in the bottom of the seventh.
McLennan defeated Grayson 10-4 in the nightcap with Vannessa Castro getting the win in the circle.
The Highlassies jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the top of the first. Dariann Resendez led off with a double, Victoria Gonzales singled and Theresa Gonzlaes was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Saldivar was also hit by the pitch bringing Resendez in to score. Victoria Gonzales then scored on a bunt by Olguin.
McLennan extended its lead with four runs in the fifth. Elizabeth Svienty singled and stole her way around to third. Breanna Heredia was then hit by the pitch. Camacho followed with a single to score Svienty. Resendez was hit by the pitch. Victoria Gonzales then tripled to score Heredia, Camacho and Resendez.
The Lady Vikings got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Morgan Lewis drew a walk and scored on a double by Jodie Hill. Hill moved to third on an overthrow and scored on a double by Goolsby.
Saldivar hit a solo home run for the Highlassies in the sixth.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the top of the seventh. Camacho singled and Resendez doubled. Camacho then scored on a fly out by Victoria Gonzales. Theresa Gonzales and Webre both doubled to score Resendez.
The Highlassies continue conference play March 15 traveling to Ranger for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
