McLennan's Gonzales racking up postseason awards
McLennan softball's Theresa Gonzales continues to gain national attention for her outstanding performance on the field this season. Today, Gonzales was named the 2016 NJCAA Softball Marucci Elite Hitter for Division I District D. The Elite Hitter award is presented to the student-athletes with the top batting average in each district. To be eligible for the award, players must have been nominated for All-America honors and met the minimum number of at-bats established by each district.
The freshman third baseman from Elgin was named a second-team All-American selection yesterday. She played in all 58 of the Highlassies' games, recording a .462 batting average with a team-leading 27 doubles and a team-high 71 RBIs. Gonzales was the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Co-Player of the Year, a first-team all-conference selection and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second-Team All-Region selection.
