Highlassies come up short against Tyler
The McLennan Highlassies' season came to an end today with a 4-2 loss to the Tyler Apaches in the NJCAA Division I National Softball Championship in St. George, Utah. Kayleigh Williams took the the loss in the circle for the Highlassies.
Tyler began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first as Tanna Huie walked, stole second and scored on a single by Amber Landry.
The Apaches added another run in the second as Alicia Garcia singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brittani Whitten and scored on a Highlassie throwing error.
Another Tyler run scored in the bottom of the third as Haley Mills walked, moved to second on a single by Huie, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Marina Duran and scored on a ground out by Landry.
The final Apache run came in the fifth. Jazlyn Crowder walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mills. Huie also drew a walk. Duran followed with a fielder's choice, putting Crowder out at third. Landry then doubled to score Huie.
McLennan mounted a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough. Serena Saldivar singled and was replaced by pinch runner Faith Aguilar. Elizabeth Svienty also singled. Andrea Gonzales followed with a double to score Aguilar. Makayla Hernandez came in to pinch run for Gonzales. Haley Webre drew a walk, loading the bases. Angelina Camacho followed with a fielder's choice to score Svienty.
