Highlassies win one, lose one in Kilgore
The McLennan Highlassies won one game and lost another at the Kilgore Tournament.
McLennan run-ruled Murray State 10-1 in their first game of the day with Chanlynn Turner getting the win in the circle.
Murray State's only run came in the bottom of the first as Kylie Manning singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out by Kayla Mitchell and scored on fly out by Sydnee Hinkle.
The Highlassies exploded for six runs in the top of the second. Victoria Gonzales and Kayleigh Williams both singled. Elizabeth Svienty then singled, scoring Victoria Gonzales. Andrea Gonzales followed with a fielder's choice, putting Svienty out at second and bringing Williams in to score. Angelina Camacho singled and Estrella Guardiola also singled, scoring Andrea Gonzales. Dariann Resendez followed with a triple, scoring Camacho and Guardiola. Resendez then scored on a passed ball.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with four runs in the third. Svienty and Andrea Gonzales both singled. Camacho drew a walk to load the bases. Guardiola grounded out, bringing Svienty in to score. Resendez then singled, bringing Andrea Gonzales and Camacho to score. Resendez advanced to third on a single by Marisa Flores and scored a ground out by Theresa Gonzales.
In the second game, the Highlassies fell to the Crowder Roughriders 7-6 in eight innings with Williams taking the loss.
McLennan scored one run in the top of the first as Resendez drew a walk, stole second and scored on a single by Theresa Gonzales.
Crowder took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Courtni Smith and Bailey Bunch both bunted for a single. Smith came in to score on an overthrow and Bunch scored on a single by Mackenzie Escovedo.
The Highlassies scored three runs in the second to retake the lead. Faith Aguilar and Andrea Gonzales both walked. Resendez followed with a home run over the left-field fence.
Back-to-back home runs by Williams and Hernandez in the third put McLennan up 6-2.
Crowder scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nicole Ickes singled and Bailey Bunch was safe on an error. Escovedo then singled to score Ickes. Paige Mendoza and Lizzie Souza both walked, bringing Bunch in to score. Mendoza then scored on a passed ball.
The Roughriders tied the game with one run in the sixth as Bunch singled and came all the way around to score on an error.
International tiebreaker rules were in effect for the eighth inning. Crowder began with Smith on second. Bunch singled to move Smith to third. Smith then scored on a passed ball.
