Highlander Golf claims Claude Jacobs Invitational title
The McLennan Highlanders shot 305-296-312 – 913 to finish in first place at the Claude Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria at the par-72, 6,870-yard Victoria Country Club. Host Houston-Victoria finished in second place with 302-307-310 – 919 followed by Tyler in third with 306-301-318 – 925.
Sophomore Matt Lorentzen shot 74-73-75 – 222 to lead the Highlanders and finish in second place individually.
Other McLennan scores: sophomore Trent Leffingwell, tied for fifth, 77-73-77 – 227; freshman Mason Mikeska, tied for 10th, 76-74-80 – 230; freshman Caden Honea, tied for 19th, 78-76-80 – 234; sophomore Andrew Lane, 34th, 76-84-83 – 243; and sophomore Brayden Marnell, tied for 41st, 84-83-80 – 247.
Other team scores: Murray State, fourth, 308-292-327 – 927; Our Lady of the Lake, fifth, 302-312-325 – 939; St. Thomas, sixth, 306-320-318 – 944; and Southwest, sixth, 307-316-326 – 949.
The Highlanders will compete in the Midland College Green Tree Invitational March 4-5 in Midland.
