Pair of McLennan golfers snag Player of the Week honors
Two McLennan golfers were named North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during the week of Oct. 15-21. Sophomore Alex Isakson picked up the men's honor, and sophomore Joely Henderson grabbed the women's honor.
Isakson, from Argyle, Texas, shot rounds of 68, 69 and 72 for a three-round score of 209 to finish tied for second place at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Preview in Lubbock Oct. 16-17. He, along with fellow teammate Matt Lorentzen who also shot 209 for the tournament, led the Highlanders to a first-place team finish that propelled them to the No. 2 spot in the nation in this week's Bushnell Golfweek poll.
Midlothian, Texas, native Henderson shot 73-74-79 – 226 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Oklahoma City for a seventh-place individual finish. She led the Highlassies to a second-place team finish only 15 strokes behind the tournament champion, Texas Wesleyan. The Highlassies' team score of 902 for the two-day event was 75 strokes ahead of Dodge City, the only other two-year college in the field.
