Highlander manager earns TABC honor
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches has named McLennan basketball manager Ayomide Obafemi as the Junior College Men's Student Assistant of the Year. In Obafemi's first year with the Highlanders, he was tasked with filming games and practice, handling laundry duties, and handling and storing uniforms and equipment.
Once Obafemi leaves McLennan, he wants to attend a four-year university and continue working as a basketball manager. He plans to ultimately break into the field of architectural design.
McLennan Men's Basketball Assistant Coach Jamaal Greene explained that Obafemi did a good job handling the day-to-day tasks and other special jobs assigned by the coaching staff.
"Ayo is a hard working young man who is dependable," Greene said. "Ayo contributed to our success on and off the court by helping, whether it was stay late and rebound for our student-athletes, or doing whatever was required or asked of him. We are truly blessed to have him as part of our program."
