Highlanders slide by Southwestern Christian
The men's contest would be a much closer affair with the McLennan pulling off the 84-70 victory.
McLennan led 15-14 with 12:49 to go in the first half. The Highlanders created a little distance with a 10-0 run, building an 11-point lead midway through the half, 25-14. Southwestern Christian found a rhythm and cut the lead to seven, 27-20, with 7:27 remaining in the half. Once again, the Highlanders made a run, this one of the 8-0 variety to push the lead to 15 with just under four minutes to go. The Rams cut the lead back to seven late in the half, and McLennan lead 45-36 at the break.
Southwestern Christian got within seven, 52-45, with 16:28 to go in the game before McLennan pulled away. The Highlanders outscored the Rams 18-5 over the next six minutes to push the lead to 20, 70-50. Southwestern Christian battled late, pulling within nine with 6;51 to play, 72-63. That would be as close as the Rams could get.
Dillon Gooding led the Highlanders with 22 points. Chris Pryor and Kirk Smith Jr. chipped in 18 and 13, respectively. Forte Prater added 10.
