Highlanders hold on for victory over Bossier Parish
The McLennan Highlanders moved to 7-1 on the season with a 78-70 victory over the Bossier Parish Cavaliers Tuesday evening at The Highlands. It was a tough physical game with a horde of fouls.
The Highlanders opened the game on a hot streak. Javen Hedgemen put McLennan on the board with a 3-pointer from the elbow less than 20 seconds into the contest. The Highlanders rattled off a 15-3 run to start the game and built a 12-point lead with 15:50 to play in the first half. Bossier Parish began to rally and tied the game at 16 midway through the half. The teams see-sawed the lead for the next three minutes. McLennan led 22-21 with 7:11 to go in the half. The Highlanders used an 8-0 run to break the game open and led 38-28 at the half.
Bossier Parish opened the second half fired up and tied the game at 42 with 15:32 remaining in the game. The two teams traded the lead down the stretch. The Cavaliers led by four, 62-58, with 6:48 to play. The Highlanders used a 15-1 run to take a 10-point lead, 73-63, with just over three minutes remaining and put the game away.
Jashawn Talton led the Highlanders with 17 points. Javen Hedgeman and Antoine Banks added 13 and 11, respectively.
