Highlanders, Highlassies stomp Southwestern Christian
The McLennan Highlanders and Highlassies stomped Southwestern Christian this afternoon at The Highlands.
In men's action, the Highlanders defeated the Rams 99-63.
The game was tit-for-tat through the first 11 minutes of play. The game was tied at 11 with 8:53 to play in the first half. McLennan began to pull away and took the first double-digit lead at 35-25 with just over four minutes to go in the first. The Highlanders continued to lead by 10, 39-29, with a minute remaining in the half. Shannon Bogues drained three free throws with 43 seconds to go to give McLennan the 42-29 lead at halftime.
The Highlanders came out on fire in the second half, opening on a 14-0 run and ran away with the game.
Jerami Grace led McLennan with 22 points and Bogues added 19. Brian Long and Aundre Jackson scored 14 and 10, respectively.
In women's action, the Highlassies ended their conference losing streak with a 79-46 win over the Lady Rams.
The teams seemed evenly matched to start the game with McLennan leading 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Highlassies began to pull away in the second quarter, taking the first double-digit lead at 23-13 with 4:37 to play. Southwestern Christian cut the lead to five, 26-21, with 1:35 to go. The Highlassies ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to take the 11-point advantage at the break, 32-21.
The third quarter was all McLennan. The Highlassies held the Lady Rams to just four points in the quarter and put the game out of reach, extending their lead to 32, 57-25. McLennan continued to cruise in the fourth on their way to the easy victory.
Victoria Seay led the Highlassies with 13 points. Kiana Martin, Diamond Ervin and Tayla Taylor scored 11 points each.
