Higlanders defeat Weatherford
The McLennan Highlanders moved to 4-1 in conference play with a 64-58 win over the Weatherford Coyotes on Wednesday at The Highlands.
Both teams started sluggish. Weatherford led 12-11 with 10:49 remaining in the first half. McLennan took the lead on an Alex Mills 3-pointer less than 30 seconds later and used an 18-2 run to pull away. The Highlanders led 36-17 at halftime.
McLennan led 41-32 with 18:28 remaining in the game. The Coyotes used a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to trim the lead to nine, 41-32. Weatherford pulled within four with just over two minutes to play but was unable to get any closer.
Jalen Jones led the Highlanders with 16 points and Alex Mills added 10.
McLennan returns to action on Saturday, hosting Collin. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
