Highlanders top Navarro
The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Navarro Bulldogs 91-82 on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Lewis Orr Classic at Navarro College.
The game was close through the first 15 minutes of play. McLennan led 29-28 with 4:41 to go in the first half. The Highlanders closed the half on a 18-5 run to break the game open and take the 47-33 lead into the locker room.
McLennan extended the lead to 16 early on in the second half and held the 63-47 lead with 10:41 remaining in the game. Navarro began to chip away, pulling within six with 1:10 to go. The Highlanders went 6-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Sophomore Jalen Jones led the Highlanders with 30 points, including a perfect 18-18 from the free-throw line. Freshman James Harrison added 19. Sophomore Ricardo Artis and freshman Alex Mills scored 16 and 13, respectively.
