Highlanders & Coyotes split
The No. 18 McLennan Highlanders and No. 8 Weatherford Coyotes split today's conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
Weatherford took the opener 3-2.
The Coyotes began the scoring with Kasen Wells' home run in the third inning.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the fourth as Sam Flores tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Weatherford took the lead with two runs in the sixth. Wells singled, stole second and third, and scored on an error. Uriah Walters then walked and scored on a double by Dayton Tockey.
McLennan's final run came in the bottom of the seventh. Flores and Gavyn Jones both singled. Flores then advanced to third on a fly out by Landon Underhill and scored on another wild pitch.
The Highlanders bounced back and overcame a long lightning delay to defeat the Coyotes 8-5 in game two. Jonah Conradt picked up the win on the mound, and Cade Waibel got the save.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Aidan Kuni singled and advanced to second on a ground out by Deiten Lachance. Flores then singled to score Kuni.
Weatherford tied the game in the top of the second. Trace Mazon doubled and advanced to second on a ground out by Louka Daoust. Mazon then scored on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Luevano.
The Coyotes took the lead with a run in the third. Jason Davis and Wells both singled. Walters then singled to score Davis.
Another Weatherford run scored in the fifth. Davis walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jerson Martin. Walters then doubled to score Davis.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Underhill walked and scored on a double by Daniel Harden. Kuni was hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Harden scored on another wild pitch. Flores singled to score Kuni. Mac Rose and Owen Smith both singled to load the bases. Flores then scored on a balk.
The Coyotes tied the game with two runs in the seventh. Wells and Walters both singled. Wells scored on a wild pitch, and Mazon singled to score Walters.
The Highlanders sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Smith and Walker Freeman both walked, and Underhill reached on an error, scoring Smith. Brecken Menuet also reached on an error, scoring Freeman. Underhill then scored when Harden hit into a double play.
