Highlanders and Coyotes split series
The McLennan Highlanders and Weatherford Coyotes split today's doubleheader, resulting in a split of the four-game conference series between the two squads.
Weatherford took game one 2-1.
The Coyotes began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Jack Clark singled, stole second and scored on a single by Robin Villeneuve.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning. Ty Johnson led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jason Hawkins. Cole Dillon then singled to score Johnson.
Weatherford scored in winning run in the top of the seventh. Dayton Tockey doubled and advanced to third on a ground out by Louka Daoust. Tockey then scored on a Highlander error.
The Highlanders bounced back to get an 8-0 run-rule win in the nightcap with Stefan Stahl picking up the win.
McLennan's first two runs came in the bottom of the second. Brodey Williams singled and advanced on a sac bunt by Rodric Black. Jake D'Altrui walked. Both runners stole a base and scored on a double by Cole Dillon.
Another Highlander run scored in the fourth. Black singled and Johnson walked. Both runners advanced on the double steal and Black scored on an error.
McLennan added two runs in the fifth. Britton Moore walked and advanced on a sac bunt by Aidan Kuni. Katcher Halligan walked, and both runners scored on another Weatherford error.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the sixth. Dillon and Blake Hansen both singled. Dillon scored on a passed ball, and Hansen scored on a single by Moore.
The Highlanders secured the run-rule with a walk-off single by Williams in the eighth. Xander McAfee led off the inning with a walk and Halligan reached on an error. Williams followed with the single, scoring McAfee to end the game.
