Two Highlanders named NJCAA All-Americans
McLennan Baseball's Cole Fontenelle and Wyatt Cheney were among players from across the nation named to the NJCAA Division I All-America Teams.
Fontenelle was selected as a Third Team All-American. The sophomore infielder from Sammamish, Washington, had a .381 average with 74 hits, 42 walks, 23 doubles, 15 home runs, 64 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He was named the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Player of the Year, NTJCAC Hitter of the Year, First-Team All-Conference, NJCAA All-Region V and an ABCA Third Team All-American. He will continue his career at Texas Christian University next season.
Cheney was named a Honorable Mention All-American. The sophomore pitcher from Bertram, Texas, was 10-3 on the mound this season with a 3.20 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 81.2 innings. He was named the NTJCAC Co-Pitcher of the Year, First -Team All-Conference and NJCAA All-Region V. He will continue his career at The University of Texas next season.
