McLennan Highlander dominate Snead State in elimination bracket
The McLennan Highlanders bounced back into the win column with a dominating 12-1 run-rule win over the Snead State Parsons at the JUCO World Series. Wyatt Cheney got the win on the mound, striking out 11 of the 20 batters he faced in the six-inning contest.
The Highlanders took control early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Cole Fontenelle tripled and scored on a single by Daniel Altman. John Ceccoli followed with a two-run homer.
Snead State's only run came with Julian Sauger's home run in the second.
McLennan added three more runs I the third. Hunter Grimes led off with a solo home run. Fontenelle walked and Ceccoli came up with another two-run homer.
Four McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Fontenelle singled and scored on Altman's two-run homers. Ceccoli was hit by the pitch and Katcher Halligan singled. Ceccoli scored on a single by Mateo Zeppieri, and Halligan scored on a passed ball.
The Highlanders secured the run rule with two runs in the top of the sixth. Ty Johnson and Grimes both singled. Johnson came in to score on an error that put Grimes on second. Grimes advanced to third on a fly out by Fontenelle and scored on a sacrifice fly by Altman.
McLennan will face Cowley in an elimination game Monday at 3 p.m. (CT).
