McLennan Highlanders fall to San Jac in JUCO opening round
The McLennan Highlanders fell to the San Jacinto Gators 15-7 in the opening round of the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Will Carsten took the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
San Jacinto jumped out to the early 2-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the first two innings. Hunter Grimes' two-run homer in the second tied the game at two going into the third inning.
The Gators added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take the 8-4 lead. But the Highlanders weren't out of the game. McLennan added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to cut the San Jacinto lead to one, 8-7 heading into the final inning.
San Jacinto scored seven in the top of the ninth and the Highlanders were unable to recover.
McLennan will face Snead State in an elimination game Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (CT).
