McLennan Highlanders sweep Cisco
The McLennan Highlanders completed the series sweep with a pair of wins over the Cisco Wranglers at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan shut out Cisco 5-0 victory in the opener with Wyatt Cheney getting the complete-game win on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out eight.
The Highlanders first run came in the bottom of the first as Hunter Grimes walked and scored on a double by Cole Fontenelle.
Another Highlander run scored in the third. Grimes reached first and advanced to second on an error, and moved to third on a passed ball. Fontenelle was hit by the pitch, and Grimes scored on a sacrifice fly by Katcher Halligan.
McLennan added another run in the fourth as Mateo Zeppieri walked and came around to score on a Cisco error.
The Highlanders put another run on the board in the fifth. Grimes singled and advanced around to third on a single by Fontenelle. Grimes then stole home.
The final McLennan run came in the bottom of the sixth. Zeppieri and Izzy Lopez both reached on errors, and Elijah Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Ty Johnson then singled to score Zeppieri.
McLennan got the 12-3 run-rule victory in the nightcap with Jared Matheson getting the win in relief of Gary Harrison.
Cisco began the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Colton Moore singled, Carlos Pichardo doubled and Will Pendergrass walked, closing the bases. Blake Hubble followed with a single to score Moore and Pichardo.
The Wranglers added a run in the third. Pichardo was hit by the pitch, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Pendergrass and moved to third on a ground out by Hubble. Bobby Serfass then singled to score Pichardo.
McLennan got on the board with two runs in the fourth. Halligan and Daniel Altman both walked. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Ravaughn Morgan and scored on a single by Lopez.
The Highlanders took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Jason Hawkins singled and Johnson reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a steal. Grimes was safe on a fielder's choice, loading the bases. Fontenelle drew a walk, scoring Hawkins, and Halligan was hit by the pitch, scoring Johnson. Altman walked to score Grimes, and Fontenelle scored on a fielder's choice by Morgan.
McLennan secured the run rule with six runs in the bottom of the seventh. Altman led off with a double and Lopez was hit by the pitch. Altman scored on a pair of passed balls that moved Lopez to third. Rodriguez drew a walk and Hawkins reached on an error, bringing Lopez in to score. Johnson singled to score Rodriguez, and Grimes walked. Fontenelle walked to score Hawkins. Altman followed with a walk-off single, scoring Johnson and Grimes to end the game.
The No. 4 Highlanders close out the regular season this week with a four-game series against 13th-ranked Grayson.
