McLennan Highlanders take pair from Cisco on the road
The fourth-ranked McLennan Highlanders swept today's conference doubleheader in Cisco.
McLennan took game one 10-2 with Will Carsten picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored four runs in the third. Izzy Lopez drew a lead-off walk and Ty Johnson doubled. Lopez scored on a passed ball, and Johnson scored on a double by Hunter Grimes. Cole Fontenelle singled and advanced on the throw that put Grimes out at third. Katcher Halligan doubled to score Fontenelle, and Daniel Altman singled to score Halligan.
Cisco scored a run in the bottom of the third as Blake Hubble doubled and score on a single by Thomas Latham.
McLennan added a run in the fourth as Hank Bard doubled, advance to third on a ground out by Elijah Rodriguez and scored on a wild pitch.
A Carlos Pichardo home run in the bottom of the fourth rounded out the Cisco scoring.
Another Highlander runs scored in the fifth as Fontenelle reached on an error, moved to third on a single by Halligan and scored on a sacrifice fly by Altman.
The final four McLennan runs came in the top of the seventh. Grimes and Halligan both hit solo home runs. Altman walked and Mateo Zeppieri was hit by the pitch. Bard single to score Altman, and Lopez doubled to score Zeppieri.
Game two was a 14-2 five-inning run-rule victory for McLennan with Devin Bennett on the mound.
The first two Highlander runs came in the top of the second. Ravaughn Morgan and Lopez both singled. Morgan scored on a Cisco error, and Lopez scored on a single by Jason Hawkins.
McLennan added four runs in the top of the third. Fontenelle doubled and scored on a single by Halligan. Lopez and Rodriguez both walked. Hawkins was hit by the pitch, bringing Halligan in to score. Johnson then reached on an error to score Lopez and Rodriguez.
Both Cisco runs came in the bottom of the third as Latham singled and scored on a Colton Moore home run.
The Highlanders sealed the run rule with eight runs in the fourth. Halligan walked and Altman singled. Lopez doubled to score Halligan, and Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Altman scored on a sacrifice fly by Hawkins, and Johnson doubled to score Lopez and Rodriguez. Grimes followed with a two run homer, and Fontenelle hit a solo home run. Halligan then doubled and score on a single by Altman.
McLennan and Cisco will complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
