No. 3 McLennan slip at No. 18 San Jacinto
The third-ranked McLennan Highlanders fell to No. 18 San Jacinto 7-2 this afternoon in a rain-shortened game in Houston. Austin Ford took the loss on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the second. Izzy Lopez and Elijah Rodriguez both walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Lopez then scored on a Gator throwing error.
San Jacinto responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Armani Sanchez and Harold Coll both walked. RJ Galvan reached on an error to score Sanchez. Jordan Williams then doubled to score Coll and Galvan.
The Gators added a run in the third as Alan Shibley walked, stole second and came around to score on a wild pitch
Another San Jacinto run scored in the fourth as Galvan singled, moved to second on a single by Eric Benitez and scored on a single by Mason Lytle.
The Highlanders second run of the afternoon came in the top of the sixth as Lopez hit a fielder's choice, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Elijah Rodriguez.
The final two Gator runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth. Ben Greer drew a lead-off walk and Lytle reached on an error. Both runners scored on a single by Shibley.
McLennan returns to conference play Wednesday, hosting Vernon for a noon doubleheader.
