The No. 3 McLennan Highlanders and Weatherford Coyotes split today's doubleheader in Weatherford, giving the Highlanders the 3-1 series victory.
Weatherford took game one 4-3 with McLennan's Wyatt Cheney taking the loss on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first as Hunter Grimes singled and scored on Cole Fontenelle's home run.
All four of Weatherford's runs came in the bottom of the third. Cade Merka and Peyton Benesh both singled. Kameron Weil followed with a double to score both runners. Weil scored on a double by Kooper Shook, and Shook scored on a fielder's choice by Cal Stark.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the bop of the sixth as Fontenelle doubled, moved to third on a single by Cole Dillon and scored on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Altman.
McLennan came from behind to defeat Weatherford 4-2 in the nightcap with Nick Greaney picking up the win on the mound.
Weatherford scored one run in bottom of the fifth. Merka single and Benesch walked. Weil then singled to score Merka.
The Coyotes added another run in the sixth as Stark doubled and scored on a single by Noah Boughton.
The Highlanders scored all four of their runs in the top of the ninth to steal the win. Grimes reached on an error, Ty Johnson singled an Fontenelle walked, loading the bases. Dillon was hit by the pitch, bringing Grimes in to score. Izzy Lopez then singled to score Johnson. Rodric Black came in as the pinch runner for Dillon. Ravaughn Morgan drew a walk, bringing Fontenelle in to score. Mateo Zeppieri then walked to score Black.
McLennan will face San Jacinto in a non-conference game at 2 p.m. Monday in Houston.
