McLennan Highlanders sweep Midland
The McLennan Highlanders swept the Midland Chaparrals this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders came from behind to take game one 8-3 with Austin Ford getting the win on the mound.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Marquis Jackson walked and Ty Johnson singled. Jackson then scored on a ground out by Cole Dillon.
Midland took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Tyler Wulfert tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Caleb Heuertz walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on passed ball. Hudson Parker then grounded out to score Heuertz.
The Chaparrals added a run with Ryan Blackwell's solo home run in the fifth.
The Highlanders stole the win with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cole Fontenelle walked and scored on a triple by Mateo Zeppieri. Daniel Altman then singled to score Zeppieri. Drew Messick followed with a two-run homer. Katcher Halligan singled and stole second. Johnson then singled to score Halligan. Cole Dillon singled, and Fontenelle tripled to score Johnson and Dillon.
McLennan got the 13-5 run-rule win in the nightcap with Nick Greaney picking up a win on the mound.
The Highlanders' first run came in bottom of the third as Dillon doubled, moved to third on a fielder's choice by Mateo Zeppieri and scored on a sacrifice fly by Altman.
Midland took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Gibrian Pena bunted for a single and scored on a double by Blackwell. Frayner Chavez then singled to score Blackwell. Garrett Williams singled and Luke Bumpus walked, loading the bases. Chavez then scored on a sacrifice fly by Wulfert.
McLennan added a run in the fifth as Zeppieri was hit by the pitch and scored on a triple by Altman.
Another Highlander run scored in the sixth to tie the game. Elijah Rodriguez singled and stole second. Rodriguez then advance to third on a Midland error and scored on a fielder's choice by Johnson.
The Chaparrals took the lead again with two runs in the seventh as Blackwell and Garrett both singled and scored on a McLennan error.
McLennan exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the run-rule victory. Izzy Lopez singled and scored on an Elijah Rodriguez home run. Johnson and Fontenelle both walked and scored on a double by Altman. Halligan was give the intentional base on balls, and Hank Bard was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Lopez then walked to score Altman. Rodriguez was hit by the pitch, scoring Halligan, and Johnson walked to score Bard. Dillon followed with a double to score Lopez, Rodriguez and Johnson to steal the win.
The Highlanders return to action tomorrow, hosting Odessa for a noon doubleheader.
