McLennan Highlanders defeat No. 3 San Jacinto
The McLennan Highlanders defeated the No. 3 San Jacinto Gators 11-9 this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark. Jack Hattrup picked up the win on the mound for the Highlanders and Landry Wideman got the save.
San Jacinto begin the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Mason Auer drew a lead-off walk and Alan Shibley reached on an error. Auer advanced to third on the error and was out at the plate. Sabin Ceballos followed with a fielder's choice, putting Shibley out at third. Chase Adkinson singled, and Ceballos stole home.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. Dominic Tamez, Alex Lopez and Chase Brown all walked to load the bases. Jaylen Williams was hit by the pitch, bringing Tamez in to score.
The Gators took the leads with five runs in the third. Armani Sanchez doubled and Warren Laster bunted for a single. Auer followed with a single to score Sanchez. Shibley walked to load the bases and Adkinson followed with a grand slam.
The Highlanders added a run in the bottom of the third as Santos tripled and scored on a single by Mason Greer.
McLennan tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Greer walked and scored on a Garrett Martin home run. Blake Jackson and Lopez both walked. Marquis Jackson followed with a single to score Blake Jackson. Lopez then scored on a passed ball.
San Jacinto regained the leads with two runs in the top of the sixth. Luke Pectol singled and Mason Lytle doubled. Pectol scored on a passed ball and Lytle scored on a ground out by Omar Cervantez.
The Highlanders responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Greer and Martin began the inning with back-to-back solo home runs. Blake Jackson and Lopez both singled. Blake scored on a passed ball and Marquis Jackson singled to score Lopez. Marquis then stole second, moved to third on a ground out by Nick Pierce and scored on a passed ball.
San Jacinto rounded out the scoring with a run in the eighth as Sanchez tripled and scored on a Highlander error.
McLennan returns to conference play Wednesday, traveling to Weatherford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
