Highlanders come from behind to defeat Paris
The McLennan Highlanders pushed their overall record to 21-13 with a come-from-behind 12-9 victory over the Paris Dragons this evening on the campus of Dallas Baptist University. Bryson Weeks picked up the win on the mound and Landry Wideman got the save.
Paris jumped out to the early lead with five runs in the top of the first inning. Sam Creed led off with a double. Julio Riggs reached on an error, bringing Creed in to score. Shelby Becker and Hayden Johnson walked. Beau Brewer followed with a double to score Riggs and Becker. Chase Alford then single to score Johnson and Brewer.
Johnson's solo home run in the top of the second made it a 6-0 Paris lead.
McLennan got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second as Dominic Tamez and Chase Brown each hit a solo home run.
The Highlanders added a run in the third as Miguel Santos doubled and scored on a single by Mason Greer.
The Dragons added two runs in the fourth to take the 8-3 lead. Creed doubled and scored on a triple by Riggs. Riggs then scored on a fly out by Becker.
Paris added another run with Cameron Dollar's home run in the fifth.
The Highlanders began to chip away at the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Ben Rosengard singled, Santos walked and Greer singled to load the bases. Garrett Martin followed with a grand slam to cut the Paris lead to two, 9-7.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Blake Jackson and Alex Lopez both singled. Hank Bard walked to load the bases. Pinch hitter Nick Pierce singled to score Jackson and Lopez, tying the game. Santos followed with a three-run bomb to put the Highlanders ahead 12-9.
