McLennan Highlanders sweep Hill on the road
The McLennan Highlanders swept the Hill Rebels this afternoon with a pair of run-rule victories to take the conference series 3-1.
The Highlanders defeated the Rebels 11-0 in five innings of game one with Brady Rose pitching a one-hit shutout on the mound.
McLennan scored a run in the top of the first as Garrett Martin walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an Alex Lopez double.
The Highlanders added six runs in the second. Blake Jackson doubled, Hank Bard walked and Jaylen Williams bunted to load the bases. Jackson scored on a Hill error and Rosengard singled to score Rosengard. Miguel Santos singled to score on Bard, and Rosengard scored on a wild pitch. Martin and Lopez both walked. Dominic Tamez followed with a fielder's choice to score Santos, and Martin scored on a fielder's choice by Jackson.
Three McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Lopez and Jackson both walked and scored on a double by Bard. Williams then single to score Bard.
Mason Greer's solo home run in the top of the fifth rounded out the scoring.
McLennan got the 12-3 run-rule win in game two with Will Carsten getting the win on the mound.
Hill took the early lead, scoring all three of its runs in the bottom of the first. Carson Ogilvie walked and Kade Hunter reached on an error. Will Buchholz followed with a single to score Ogilvie. Jax Alley singled to score Hunter and Kade Brewer singled to score Buchholz.
McLennan got on the board with a run in the third as Santos singled, moved to second on a single by Greer and scored on a single by Martin.
The Highlanders took the lead with five runs in the fourth. Jackson doubled and Williams was hit by the pitch. Rosengard followed with a double to score both runners. Santos walked and Greer followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan added a run in the fifth. Jackson was hit by the pitch, Bard singled and Williams walked, loading the bases. Rosengard then singled to score Jackson.
The final five Highlander runs came in the sixth. Martin and Lopez both singled, and Tamez walked to load the bases. Jackson's fielder's choice scored Martin. Bard walked to score Lopez. Rosengard's fielder's choice put Tamez out at the plate. Santos drew a walk. Jackson scored on an error and Bard scored on a passed ball. Greer then singled to score Rosengard.
McLennan returns to action Monday, facing Paris in a 6:30 p.m. game at Dallas Baptist University.a
