McLennan, Ranger split on baseball diamond
The McLennan Highlanders and Ranger Rangers split today's doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
Ranger took game one 8-3 with Gray Harrison taking the loss on the mound.
Ranger began the scoring with a run in the top of the second as Austin Hale walked, stole second and scored on a single by Jose Gutierrez.
McLennan tied the game with a run in bottom of the second as Dominic Tamez tripled and scored on a single by Blake Jackson.
The Rangers took the lead with a run in the top of the third. Alexander Olivo and Hale both singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Gutierrez was intentionally walked and Landon Roque was hit by the pitch, bringing Olivo in to score.
Ranger added four runs in the fourth. Brandon Holdren hit a solo home run. Ciaran Palmer and Olivo both singled. Hale singled to score Palmer. Olivo and Hale then scored on a single by Gutierrez.
The Highlanders scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as Tamez doubled and scored on a single by Jackson.
McLennan's final run came on a Mason Greer home run in the sixth.
Ranger rounded out the scoring with two runs in the seventh. With two outs on the board, Palmer singled. Olivo and Hale both walked to load the bases. Pinch hitter Joseph Frisby then singled to score Palmer and Olivo.
McLennan came from behind to defeat Ranger 6-4 in the nightcap with Jack Hattrup picking up the win and Landry Wideman getting the save.
Ranger scored three runs in the fourth. Olivo doubled and Hale singled. Gutierrez followed with a three-run homer.
Holdren's solo home run in the fifth was the Rangers final run.
All six of McLennan's runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Tamez doubled and scored on an over throw. Alex Lopez, Jackson and Hank Bard all singled. Nick Pierce singled to score Lopez and Jackson, and Bard scored on a single by Ben Rosengard. Rosengard then moved around to third on a pair of passed balls and scored on a Ranger error.
McLennan returns to action Monday, traveling to Carthage for a 3 p.m. game at Panola.
