McLennan Baseball sweeps Cisco
McLennan Baseball swept the Cisco Wranglers today to win their first conference series of the 2021 season.
The Highlanders defeated the Wranglers 9-5 in the opener with Brady Rose getting the win on the mound and Jared Matheson picking up the save.
Garrett Martin's solo home run put McLennan on the board in the top of the first.
The Highlanders added two runs in the second. Dominic Tamez doubled and Blake Jackson walked. Both runners scored on a single by Nick Pierce.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Martin led off with a double and scored on a double by Alex Lopez. Tamez then doubled to score Lopez.
Cisco scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Reed Spenrath and Roberto Gonzalez both singled and scored on Alec Carr's home run.
The Highlanders added another run in the fifth as Lopez doubled and scored on a single by Hank Bard.
The Wranglers added a run in the fifth as Spenrath reached on an error and scored on a single by Gonzalez.
McLennan's final three runs came in the top of the seventh. Martin singled and Lopez drew a walk, both scoring on a home run by Tamez.
Cisco's Aquino rounded out the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Highlanders picked up a 15-7 run-rule win in the nightcap with Jack Hattrup getting the win on the mound.
McLennan exploded for 10 runs in the top of the first. Mason Greer reached on an error and scored on a double by Miguel Santos. Martin doubled and Lopez walked, loading the bases. Tamez singled to score Santos, and Martin scored on an error. Ben Rosengard followed with a three-run homer. Wyatt Childress and Izzy Lopez both walked. Greer singled to score Childress, and Santos followed with a three-run homer.
Cisco responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Carlos Contreras and Jesse Gonzalez both singled. Roberto Gonzalez followed with a double to score Contreras and Jesse Gonzalez. Carr then singled to score Roberto Gonzalez.
The Highlanders tacked on three more runs in the second. Rosengard hit a solo home run. Pierce doubled and scored on a triple by Izzy Lopez. Greer then singled to score Izzy Lopez.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Tamez singled and Rosengard walked, both scoring on a single by Pierce.
Carr hit a solo home run for Cisco in the third.
The Wranglers added another run in the fourth as Colton Moore walked, moved to second as Dylan Bouregeois was hit by the pitch and scored on a single by Spenrath.
Contreras' solo home run for Cisco in the sixth rounded out the scoring.
McLennan returns to action Monday, traveling to Corsicana to face Navarro in a single game at 2 p.m.
