Highlanders close out Permian Basin trip with split at Odessa
On Saturday, the Highlanders split a doubleheader with the Odessa Wranglers.
Odessa defeated McLennan 3-1 in the opener with Logan Freeman taking the loss on the mound.
The Wranglers scored one in the bottom of the first. TJ Tomlinson and Guilio Monello both singled. Tyson Pointer then singled to score Tomlinson.
Odessa added a run in the third as Daniel Monti singled, moved to second on a ground out by Tomlinson and scored on a double by Monello.
McLennan's run came in the fifth as Blake Jackson doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Rosengard and scored on a wild pitch.
The Wranglers' final run came in the bottom of the sixth as Pointer doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hatton.
McLennan defeated Odessa 11-3 in the nightcap with Will Carsten getting the win on the mound.
The Highlanders began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Greer walked and scored on a double by Tamez.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Lopez singled and scored on a Wyatt Childress triple. Santos then doubled to score Childress.
The Highlanders added five runs in the fourth. Alex Lopez, Izzy Lopez and Childress all singled. Alex scored on a balk and Santos walked. A Greer sacrifice fly brought Izzy in to score, and Martin singled to score Childress. Santos scored on a balk, and Tamez singled to score Martin.
Odessa scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as Isaac Rivera singled, move to second on an error and scored on single by Brandon Rincones.
The Wranglers' final two runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Jake Gonce, Tomlinson and Monello all walked. Pointer was then hit by the pitch, scoring Gonce, and Rivera walked to score Tomlinson.
McLennan's final three runs came in the top of the eighth. Childress walked and Santos singled. Greer followed with a three-run homer.
