McLennan's Thompson earns regional coach of the year honor

McLennan baseball head coach Mitch Thompson was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year for the NJCAA Division I Southwestern Region in a list released Thursday by the ABCA.

This season, Thompson led the Highlanders to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championship, the NJCAA Region V Championship and a fifth-place finish at the JUCO World Series. The Highlanders finished the season with an overall record of 52-13.

The regional honorees are eligible for the ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year award, which will be announced on July 5.
