Highlanders sweep conference Player of the Week awards
McLennan Highlanders Nic Motley and Jase Embry teamed up to dominate the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week awards for March 12-18.
Motley, a sophomore catcher/designated hitter, was named the Position Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in McLennan's conference series with Ranger. For the week, he hit .416 with a double and three home runs including a grand slam in the Highlanders' 16-0 rout of the Rangers. He recorded 10 RBIs and scored three runs in the four-game series.
For the second consecutive week, Jase Embry claimed the Pitcher of the Week honor. The freshman from Axtell had a no-hitter going into the top of the seventh inning in the 1-0 win over Ranger. He allowed just one hit and one walk in 6 1/3 innings of work while striking out four Rangers.
