Highlanders, Vikings split
The McLennan Highlanders and Grayson Vikings split their conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders defeated the Vikings 11-6 in game one with Reece Calvert getting the win on the mound.
Grayson began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Victor DeJesus led off with a triple and Ray Henderson-Lozano followed with a home run.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the first. Dimas Ojeda doubled, Brendan Venter singled and Cory Voss walked, loading the bases. Noah McGowan was hit by the pitch, bringing Ojeda in to score. Venter, Voss and McGowan all scored on a double by Joe Breaux.
The Highlanders added two runs in the second. Mario Vela and James Rudkin both singled. Ojeda walked, loading the bases. Venter then singled to score Vela and Rudkin.
The Vikings scored a run in the fourth as Brad Barnett and Grant DeVore both singled and scored on a single by Brady Manning.
McLennan scored one run in the fourth. Ojeda singled and Venter was hit by the pitch. Voss then singled to score Ojeda.
Another Highlander run scored in the fifth as Tucker Johnson doubled and scored on a single by Ojeda.
The Highlanders' final three runs came in the sixth. McGowan singled, but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Joe Breaux. Vela drew a walk. Johnson followed with the three-run homer.
Grayson rounded out the scoring with three runs in the seventh. Cooper Coldiron walked and P.J. Harris singled. Travis Wacker followed with a three-run home run.
The Vikings defeated the Highlanders 9-7 in the nightcap with Chris Glover taking the loss on the mound.
Grayson scored two runs in the fourth. Wacker singled. Barnett was safe at first on an error, advancing Wacker to third. Wacker then scored on a sacrifice fly by Seth Mullis. DeVore singled, and Barnett scored on a single by Chase Whetsel.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Venter, Voss and McGowan all walked, loading the bases. Breaux singled to score Venter and Voss. McGowan then scored on a ground out by Vela.
The Vikings took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Coldiron singled and Henderson-Lozano drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a Highlander error. Coldiron came in to score on a wild pitch. Henderson-Lozano scored on a sacrifice fly by Wacker. Barnett then singled and scored on a doubled by Mullis.
Grayson increased the lead with three runs in the seventh. Henderson-Lozano doubled and scored on a single by Harris. Wacker singled and Barnett walked, loading the bases. Harris and Wacker then scored on a single by Whetsel.
The Highlanders added two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Johnson walked and scored on an Ojeda home run.
The Vikings' final run came in the top of the eighth as Henderson-Lozano doubled and scored on a single by Wacker.
McLennan added a run in the bottom of the eighth as Creighton Eldridge doubled and scored on a single by Rudkin.
The Highlanders' final run came in the bottom of the ninth. Voss and Breaux both walked. Vela then singled to score Voss.
