Highlanders top Tyler
The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Tyler Apaches 4-1 Monday afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark. Chris Glover picked up the win on the mound, recording 10 strikeouts in five innings. Hunter Spaeth got the save.
Tyler's only run came in the top of the second as Mason Mallard singled, stole second and scored on a single by Colton Whitehouse.
All four of McLennan's runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Cory Voss drew a walk, Brendan Venter singled and Cole Haring walked to load the bases. Chris Roller followed with a single to score Voss and Venter. Haring and Roller then scored on a single by Mario Vela.
"This is one of the games that, as a coach, you feel that you are happy to win the game but you don't feel like you really played that well," head coach Mitch Thompson said. "Offensively we did not swing the bat very well; we did just enough to get it done."
"Thankfully our pitching staff was outstanding. Glover was very good. Coleman Beazley was outstanding in his three innings; then Spaeth came in to finish the game off. Our pitching staff won the game for us and held Tyler at bay. Thankfully we came up with a couple big hits at the right time to win the game."
"We will just keep grinding away, trying to get better and trying to continue to improve as we keep moving through the season."
