Highlanders shut out Tyler
The McLennan Highlanders shut out the Tyler Apaches 8-0 this afternoon in Tyler.
Dustin Jourdan picked up the win on the mound for the Highlanders. Brendan Ventor and Cory Voss both went 2-5 with a double. Voss recorded two RBIs and Ventor had one. Tucker Johnson, Mario Vela and James Rudkin all picked up an RBI each. Rudkin was 2-4 at the plate.
"I'm really proud of how our pitchers competed on the mound. We threw seven guys and only gave up five hits. It's obviously a very good day for our pitching staff," coach Mitch Thompson said. "We played good defense today and didn't commit any errors. Those are the things that lead to wins. Offensively, we struggled. We had a good inning in the seventh and busted the game open. But we need to continue to work to get better offensively up and down the lineup. Overall it was a good win against a good Tyler ballclub that is the two-time defending NCJAA Division III National Champion and was undefeated before our game today."
McLennan hosts Midland for a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
