The McLennan Highlanders dropped both games of Wednesday's conference doubleheader with the Grayson Vikings in Sherman.
Grayson run-ruled the Highlanders 12-2 in game one with Collin Sharp taking the loss on the mound. James Rudkin led McLennan at the plate, going 1-3 with an RBI.
The Highlanders fell to the Vikings 14-7 in the nightcap with Reece Calvert taking the loss.
Will Fox hit a home run and picked up two RBIs. Dimas Ojeda also homered and picked up three RBIs. Rudkin was 3-4 and Jon Tauzin was 2-4 at the plate. Sydney Daley and Braxton Hollenshead both recorded an RBI.
"Grayson has a good team and they got after us today," coach Mitch Thompson said. "It was an extremely windy day. With a wind of 20-30 miles per hour, it is very important to keep the ball down. When our pitchers made mistakes, their hitters made us pay. Unfortunately, our hitters did not match them offensively today."
"Game one was a pretty decent game until the fifth when we were forced to pull Collin Sharp after 80 pitches," Thompson said. "Collin was starting for the first time in a month and we couldn't push him any further without putting him at risk for an injury."
"We dug ourself a deep hole early in game two and just couldn't climb out of it. We will put these two games behind us and go to work so that hopefully Saturday, we can return the favor and send Grayson home with a couple losses."
The teams will complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
