The McLennan Highlanders swept Saturday's baseball doubleheader with the Richland Thunderducks in Dallas.
Dustin Jourdan picked up the 6-2 win in game one for the Highlanders. Dimas Ojeda was 2-4 at the plate to lead McLennan. Will Fox recorded two RBIs while Braxton Wilks and J.T. Stevenson picked up an RBI each.
The Highlanders defeated the Thunderducks 8-4 in the nightcap with Reece Calvert getting the win on the mound. Fox led the Highlanders at the plate, going 4-5 with a double. Braxton Wilks hit a double and brought in three RBIs. Braxton Hollenshead and Creighton Eldridge both doubled. James Rudkin, Brady Sullivan and Brandon Grudzielanek all recorded an RBI.
"It was an extremely tough day to play with a 25-mile-per-hour wind blowing right in the hitters' faces," coach Mitch Thompson said. "It took us a while to make the necessary adjustments and start hitting line drives. We hit some balls hard early and had plenty of opportunity to score, but we didn't come up with the big hit. Thankfully we put together a solid seventh inning offensively to win the game.
"We hit better in the second game and were able to score early," Thompson said. "Calvert had a little cushion to work with and earned his first college win. He was in control the entire time he was on the mound.
"We have plenty to work on to improve, but overall, I have to be happy whenever we sweep a doubleheader on the road."
